Nucleosome Ab [Units/volume] in Serum by Immunoassay
Active
Part Description
LP31804-5 Nucleosome
The nucleosome is the structural unit of chromatin and consists of a segment of dsDNA coiled around a histone core. Anti-chromatin autoantibodies, such as those found in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) fall in to two categories: those directed against individual components of chromatin, such as DNA and histone, and those directed against the intact nucleosome. Traditionally anti-dsDNA antibodies have been among the ones used for diagnosis and monitoring of SLE, however, studies have shown that for some patients, the nucleosome is the primary antigen in SLE, and anti-nucleosome antibodies may provide a better reflection of disease activity. A subset of patients who are positive for anti-nucleosome antibodies but negative for anti-dsDNA antibodies may have a milder course of SLE that does not involve the kidneys. PMID: 25193804

- Change Reason
- The EIA method, which was always intended to cover more than just enzyme-linked immunoassay and whose display name for the long common name has always been Immunoassay, was renamed IA in order to eliminate ambiguity about whether the method has a broader meaning than just enzyme-linked immunoassay. Likewise, EIA.rapid was renamed IA.rapid. These changes were approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
