Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) correlates with serum transferrin. TIBC is increased in iron-deficiency anemia, oral contraceptive use, and in late pregnancy. TIBC is decreased in hypoproteinemia, chronic infections, hemochromatosis, cirrhosis, neoplastic and renal disease, and thalassemia.
