Inhibin A is a dimeric inhibin synthesized and secreted by the ovary granulosa cells, testis Sertoli cells, and placenta. Increased levels of Inhibin A are seen in women with fetuses affected by Down's syndrome and are measured as part of some second trimester maternal screens. The addition of inhibin A testing to second trimester screens including AFP and hCG has been shown to significantly improve the rate of detection of Down's syndrome.
