As of 2013, CPT codes for fluoroscopic angiography procedures of head and neck vessels are categorized as non-selective and selective. In a non-selective procedure, the catheter is inserted and contrast is injected in the aorta, whereas for selective procedures, the catheter continues beyond the aorta to the specific vessel(s) being targeted. Selective procedures by definition include the non-selective procedure, so LOINC terms that explicitly name both the non-selective and selective procedure are no longer needed.
