Calprotectin is a calcium-binding protein secreted predominantly by neutrophils during bacterial infection or inflammation. It is a biomarker used in the evaluation of chronic inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Elevated fecal levels have been seen in patient's with IBD and GI tract infections.
