Myelin associated glycoprotein IgM Ab [Titer] in Serum by Immunoassay

Part Description
LP18213-6 Myelin associated glycoprotein
Myelin associated glycoprotein (MAG) is a 100 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein found in the periaxonal membranes of Schwann cells and oligodendrocytes of myelin sheaths. Despite the fact that MAG is a known white matter inhibitor of axonal regeneration and as a receptor for IgM antibodies that demyelinates peripheral nerves, it has important roles that promote normal formation and maintenance of myelinated axons. There are two apparent functions of MAG which are to act as a ligand for an axonal receptor which maintains myelinated axons, and to act as an axonal signal receptor that promotes differentiation, maintenance, and survival of oligodendrocytes. MAG shares an epitope with other glyoconjugates that is the target protein in autoimmune peripheral neuropathy, that is associated with IgM gammopathy which causes the death of oligodendrocytes that is seen in multiple sclerosis. - Change Reason
- The EIA method, which was always intended to cover more than just enzyme-linked immunoassay and whose display name for the long common name has always been Immunoassay, was renamed IA in order to eliminate ambiguity about whether the method has a broader meaning than just enzyme-linked immunoassay. Likewise, EIA.rapid was renamed IA.rapid. These changes were approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
