Cryptosporidium parvum is a parasitic protozoa that infects humans and domestic mammals. C. parvum (and a few other species) are the cause the disease called cryptosporidiosis, an acute watery diarrhea that is not bloody, and is sometimes accompanied by anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The disease is self-limiting in healthy individuals, but can be severe in immunocompromised hosts.
