Part Description
LP33400-0 Guidance for nerve block
An anesthetic or anti-inflammatory medication injection targeted at a nerve or group of nerves to temporarily relieve pain in a specific location, or to decrease inflammation in that area. A nerve block is usually an outpatient procedure performed by a radiologist or anesthesiologist. Imaging guidance such as fluoroscopy or computed tomography is often used to help place the needle for maximum benefit. Examples for types of nerve blocks and body regions are: 1) Trigeminal nerve blocks (face), 2) cervical epidural, thoracic epidural, and lumbar epidural block (neck and back), and 3) cervical plexus block and cervical paravertebral block (shoulder and upper neck). Benefits may include; temporary pain relief, temporary reduction of inflammation, diagnostic information, and improved function in daily activities. Some risks include; infection, bleeding, delivery of medication to the blood stream, or blocking the wrong nerve.
