Amorphous crystals (also called amorphous urates) appear as small, sand-like particles with no specific shape (amorphous). They are commonly seen in the urine of healthy patients. Amorphous crystals with sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium substances tend to form in acidic urine and may have a yellow or yellow-brown color. Amorphous phosphates are similar in appearance to amorphous urates but they tend to form in alkaline urine and lack color. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
