Cladosporium, also known as Hormodendrum, is a common fungus associated with plants, wood products, and leather goods. Cladosporium appears gray to black or very dark green and may have a powdery appearance. The Cladosporium genus includes over 30 species. It is the most commonly identified outdoor fungus and is a common mold allergen. The tiny spores of these molds become airborne and may cause allergy symptoms to flare up when inhaled by a person with sensitivity to mold allergens. Cladosporium are a common cause of extrinsic asthma.

Cladosporium is a genus of fungi including some of the most common indoor and outdoor molds. It produces olive-green to brown or black colonies, and its dark-pigmented conidia are formed in simple or branching chains. The many species of Cladosporium are commonly found on living and dead plant material. Some species are plant pathogens; others parasitize other fungi. Cladosporium spores are wind-dispersed and they are often extremely abundant in outdoor air. Indoors Cladosporium species may grow on surfaces when moisture is present.
