Deprecated Fibrinogen in Platelet poor plasma
Deprecated
Status Information
- Status
- DEPRECATED
- Comment
- Based on extensive review of mappings and usage across Canada, Canada Health Infoway found that the limited use LABORDER codes are not being used. CHI and the Laboratory LOINC Committee agreed that these codes should be deprecated in order to minimize inadvertent mapping of observations to these terms (as has been reported).

Term Description
Created ONLY for ORDERING in response to request from Canada Health Infoway- a national standardization effort. The dashes in this case mean that the ordering provider does not care what property or scale is used in the observation performed in response to this order. LOINC is still pondering details about how this kind of item should be represented. So the representation might change in the future, but the term will still have the same usage and meaning.
Part Description
LP14704-8 Fibrinogen
Fibrinogen is a plasma glycoprotein that was first isolated from horse plasma in 1876. Fibrinogen is produced in the liver and constitutes 5% of the total plasma protein. It is vital to wound healing, fibrinolysis, inflammation, cellular and matrix interactions and neoplasia by interacting with numerous proteins and cells. Fibrinogen activates a series of clotting factors in response to an injury or other stimuli that leads to the enzymatic conversion of soluble fibrinogen into fibrin. Fibrin is the insoluble, structural component of blood clots. Fibrinogen is an acute phase reactant that can increase 200-400% in response to infection, chronic inflammation, smoking and other environmental stresses.
