Heavy metals [Presence] in Urine by Reinsch
Active
Part Description
LP14257-7 Heavy metals
A heavy metal is any of a number of higher atomic weight elements, which normally presents as a metallic substance at room temperatures. There are several different definitions of which elements fall in this class designation: According to one definition, heavy metals are a group of elements between copper and bismuth on the periodic table of the elementshaving specific gravities greater than 4.0.A stricter definition limits the term to those metals heavier than the rare earth metals, at the bottom of the periodic table. None of these are essential elements in biological systems; all of the more well-known elements with the exception of bismuth and gold are toxic. Thorium and uranium are sometimes included as well, but they are more often called simply radioactive metals.
