Nitrite [Presence] in Urine by Test strip
Active
Part Description
LP14270-0 Nitrite
Nitric oxide is converted to nitrate (NO3-) and nitrite (NO2-), both inorganic ions that occur naturally in the soil, water and some foods. Nitrates are relatively non-toxic but can become toxic when converted to nitrites either in food or in the digestive tract. In animals, pigs are more susceptible to nitrite poisoning than cattle and sheep. PMCID: PMC4170561 Pigs have been poisoned by drinking the condensed water from ventilating shafts in piggeries and after eating plaster board which had fallen into their pens after becoming soaked with this material. Both feed and water consumption need to be considered when encountering nitrate toxicity problems.

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; Updated Answer list type from NORMATIVE to EXAMPLE because the Answers in the list (Positive, Negative) are only examples of possible answers and not an exclusive list
