LP19264-8 Ubiquinone 10
Ubiquinone 10 (CoQ10) is an important member of the mitochondrial respiratory chain that plays a role in oxidative phosphorylation. CoQ10 is present in subcellular fractions and in plasma lipoproteins where it functions as an antioxidant. There have been many studies on the effects treatment with CoQ10 can have on a number of systems in the body including: an effect on gene expression; improvement of endothelium-bound extracellular superoxide dismutase (edSOD) in patients with coronary artery disease (ecSOD is thought to protect blood vessels against oxidant-induced damage); decrease in blood pressure; improvement of patients' diastolic dysfunction, mean interventricular septal thickness, and posterior wall thickness in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; improvement in seminal plasma volume and sperm cell motility; reduction in the risk of pre-eclampsia. A deficiency of CoQ10 is associated with worse outcomes in chronic heart failure. PMID: 19932599

LP32142-9 Protein
Proteins are large organic compounds made of amino acids arranged in a linear chain and joined together between the carboxyl atom of one amino acid and the amine nitrogen of another. This bond is called a peptide bond. The sequence of amino acids in a protein is defined by a gene and encoded in the genetic code. Although this genetic code specifies 20 standard amino acids, the residues in a protein are often chemically altered in post-translational modification:either before the protein can function in the cell, or as part of control mechanisms. Proteins can also work together to achieve a particular function, and they often associate to form stable complexes. Like other biological macromolecules such as polysaccharides and nucleic acids, proteins are essential parts of all living organisms and participate in every process within cells. Many proteins are enzymes that catalyze biochemical reactions, and are vital to metabolism.
