Coxsackievirus IgM Ab [Presence] in Serum or Plasma by Immunoassay
Active
Term Description
Antibodies in serum or plasma directed against Coxsackievirus can be detected by enzyme immunoassays. We created this code for Institut Viron's SERION ELISA classic Coxsackievirus IgA/IgG/IgM test kit, which utilizes antigens for Coxsackieviruses serotypes B1 and B6. These antigens, described as widely cross-reactive, are used to facilitate the detection of infections due to other Coxsackieviruses serotypes. Due to the high homology of the viruses, cross reactions with Coxsackieviruses and other Enteroviruses as well as Hepatitis A virus, Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Rhinoviruses and Mycoplasma have been described. A positive IgA and/or IgM test result combined with increasing IgG titer is diagnostic of an acute or recent Coxsackievirus infection.

Part Description
LP21157-0 Coxsackievirus
Coxsackie (virus) is a cytolytic virus of the Picornaviridae family, an enterovirus (a group containing the polioviruses, coxsackieviruses, and echoviruses). Coxsackieviruses are divided into group A and group B viruses based on early observations of their pathogenicity in mice. Group A coxsackieviruses were noted to cause a flaccid paralysis, which was caused by generalized myositis, while group B coxsackieviruses were noted to cause a spastic paralysis due to focal muscle injury and degeneration of neuronal tissue. At least 23 serotypes (1-22, 24) of group A and six serotypes (1-6) of group B are recognized.

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; The EIA method, which was always intended to cover more than just enzyme-linked immunoassay and whose display name for the long common name has always been Immunoassay, was renamed IA in order to eliminate ambiguity about whether the method has a broader meaning than just enzyme-linked immunoassay. Likewise, EIA.rapid was renamed IA.rapid. These changes were approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
