Streptococcus constellatus DNA [Presence] in Specimen by NAA with probe detection
Active
Term Description
This term was created for (but not limited to) a Streptococcus species multiplex Taqman® real-time PCR assay, which identifies Streptococcus species within Lancefield group C and G. The multiplex assay detects genes that encode for the penicillin binding protein genes (pbp2b) of Streptococcus anginosus, S. constellatus, and S. intermedius; the intermedialysin (ily) gene of S. intermedius; the chaperonin (cpn60) gene of S. dysgalactiae subsp equisimilus; and the 16S-23S intergenic spacer region (16S-23S ITS) of S. constellatus. Real-time PCR method is more rapid and cost-effective compared to identification of these organisms by 16S sequencing.

Part Description
LP145779-7 Streptococcus constellatus
Streptococcus constellatus is a species of Streptococcus. DNA homology studies and 16S rRNA sequence analysis demonstrate S. constellatus is collectively known as the Streptococcus milleri group along with Streptococcus intermedius and Streptococcus anginosus. Streptococcus constellatus part of the normal flora in the oral cavity, urogenital region, and intestinal tract. However, it can frequently cause purulent infections in other parts of the body.
