Part Description
LP29281-0 Myeloperoxidase
Myeloperoxidase is a neutrophilic enzyme that produces oxidants such as free radicals and hypohalous acids. This enzyme is released into phagosomes in order to destroy phagocytized pathogens. Although the oxidants produced by myeloperoxidase aid in immunity defense, these oxidants can also lead to damage of the host tissue and increased oxidative stress (often associated with inflammation). Elevated levels of myeloperoxidase have been observed in individuals with the following conditions: heart disease, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer's disease.
