JWH-018 4/5-hydroxypentyl (synthetic cannabinoid metabolites) [Presence] in Blood
Active
Term Description
Submitter's referral laboratory uses what is usually considered a confirmatory method (e.g. LC/MS/MS) as the initial method for this analyte and then repeats the measurement with the same high accuracy method on tests that are positive in the first run to confirm them. Results (e.g. positive/negative) are based on a threshold of 1.0 ng/mL.

LP157281-9 JWH-018 4+5-hydroxypentyl
JWH-018 (1-pentyl-3-(1-naphthoyl)indole) or AM-678 is an analgesic chemical from the naphthoylindole family that acts as a full agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, with some selectivity for CB2. It produces effects in animals similar to those of THC, a cannabinoid naturally present in cannabis, leading to its use in synthetic cannabis products such as "legal cannabis herbal incense blends" which in some countries are sold legally as "incense", labeled "not for human consumption.

Synthetic cannabinoids interact with the same brain receptors as THC (the active drug present in marijuana) and have been demonstrated to produce similar effects. The drug is typically sprayed on botanical material and smoked, although it can be ingested in liquid or powder form. Products containing this drug are sold under a wide variety of names including (but not limited to) Spice, Potpourri, Smoke, K2, Zombie, Kush, and Cloud 10.

Synthetic cannabinoids are a family of compounds that, when consumed, can mimic the psychoactive effects of cannabis. Designer brand name products such as K2 and Spice, both of which have largely become genericized trademarks used to refer to any synthetic cannabis product, contain varying mixes of these synthetic compounds. Another example is Kronic, sold in Australia. The following list includes many of synthetic cannabis chemicals tested for: JWH-018; JWH-018 6-hydroxyindole; JWH-018 N-5-hydroxypentyl; JWH-200 5-hydroxy JWH-018; AM2201; JWH-073 N-(3-hydroxybutane); JWH-073; JWH-073 N-Butanol; JWH-018 N-pentanoic acid; JWH-018 5-hydroxyindole; JWH-073 N-Butanoic acid; JWH-019; JWH-018 4-hydroxyindole; JWH-398; JWH-122.
