RCS-4 5-carboxypentyl (synthetic cannabinoid metabolite) [Presence] in Blood
Active
Term Description
Submitter's referral laboratory uses what is usually considered a confirmatory method (e.g. LC/MS/MS) as the initial method for this analyte and then repeats the measurement with the same high accuracy method on tests that are positive in the first run to confirm them. Results (e.g. positive/negative) are based on a threshold of 1.0 ng/mL.

Part Descriptions
LP157295-9 RCS-4 5-carboxypentyl
Synthetic cannabinoids interact with the same brain receptors as THC (the active drug present in marijuana) and have been demonstrated to produce similar effects. The drug is typically sprayed on botanical material and smoked, although it can be ingested in liquid or powder form. Products containing this drug are sold under a wide variety of names including (but not limited to) Spice, Potpourri, Smoke, K2, Zombie, Kush, and Cloud 10.

LP157295-9 RCS-4 5-carboxypentyl
RCS-4 N-(5-carboxypentyl) and RCS-4 N-(5-hydroxypentyl) are synthetic cannabis metabolites. Synthetic cannabinoids are psychoactive designer drugs derived of natural herbs sprayed with synthetic chemicals that, when consumed, allegedly mimic the pleasurable effects of cannabis. A large and complex variety of synthetic cannabinoids, most often cannabicyclohexanol, JWH-018, JWH-073, RCS-4, AM or HU-210, are in use. Although synthetic cannabinoids do not produce positive results in drug tests for cannabis, it is possible to detect the metabolites in human blood at a cutoff of 1.0 ng/mL.
