This test measures the isoleucine level in children who have been diagnosed with maple syrup urine disease are on a therapeutic diet for their condition. Dried blood spot specimens are sent to the lab for monitoring tests periodically. Depending on the lab, the isoleucine level may be used in combination with leucine, alloisoleucine, hydroxyproline and/or valine levels to monitor the patient's progress.
