Parvovirus B19 DNA [Presence] in Plasma from Donor by NAA with probe detection
Active
Term Description
Interpretation of the parvovirus B19 DNA (Genotypes 1-3) quantitative result, which is used to test human donor plasma, either from whole blood (recovered plasma) or collected by apheresis, prior to further manufacture. Plasma may be tested as individual specimens or in pools. Not intended for use on samples of cord blood or as an aid in diagnosis. This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the cobas TaqScreen DPX test kit.
Part Description
LP16661-8 Parvovirus B19
Parovovirus causes Fifth disease - highly contagious pediatric disease that is minimally symptomatic. The main reason for testing is in pregnant women because of concern that it may cause fetal loss. In immunocompetent patients antibody testing is sufficient. UpToDate indicates that IgG and IGM are usually both tested.
