Part Descriptions
LP199583-8 Guanine
Guanine [PubChem: Guanine] is a purine, a group of molecules used by all cells of the body for many essential biochemical processes including enzymatic reactions, cofactor-requiring reactions, synthesis of DNA or RNA, and signaling transduction and translation. PMID: 23622405 Disorders of purine metabolism occur at any age and involve various organ systems. Diagnosis of purine (and pyrimidine) metabolism disorders is based upon the clinical presentation and evaluation of purine and pyrimidine metabolite concentration patterns. Confirmatory enzyme assays and/or molecular genetic testing are peformed to confirm a diagnosis. Several types of disorders of purine metabolism include adenylosuccinate lyase (ADSL) deficiency, hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) deficiency, myoadenylate deaminase (mAMPD) deficiency and Adenosine deaminase deficiency (ADD).

LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.
