D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D-2-HG, D2HG) and L-2-hydroxyglutarate (L-2-HG, L2HG), are isomeric forms of 2-hydroxyglutaric acid. Accumulation of D-2-HG and/or L-2-HG in body fluids (e.g. urine, CSF, amniotic fluid, plasma) are the biochemical hallmarks of 2-hydroxyglutaric acidurias (2-HGAs), which are inborn organic acidurias that cause neurological impairment at a young age.
