The gastric cancer tumor site location recorded as proximal , middle , and/or distal third of the stomach. True gastric proximal (cardia) tumors are rare; most involve the esophagogastric junction and should therefore be staged using the esophageal cancer staging system versus the gastric cancer staging system.
