Part Descriptions
LP99611-3 Ganglioside GD3
GD3 is one of the primary gangliosides found outside the central nervous system and is present in the pancreas. Approximately 50% of patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes have evidence of anti-GD3 autoantibodies; however, anti-GD3 antibodies have not been found in patients with pre-diabetes, which may indicate that anti-GD3 antibodies are not a primary event in the development of diabetes. LP222219-0 Ganglioside
A ganglioside molecule consists of a glycosphingolipid (ceramide and oligosaccharide) with one or more sialic acid residues linked to the sugar chain. Molecules with one sialic acid residue are called monosialogangliosides (GM), those with two are called disialogangliosides (GD), and those with three are trisialogangliosides (GT). Gangliosides without any sialic acid residues are called asialogangliosides, while those that do not have a ceramide N-acyl group are called lysogangliosides. The number that typically is included at the end of the name indicates the order in which the molecule was discovered. For example, GM2 is a ganglioside with one sialic acid residue that was the second GM to be identified.
