Part Descriptions
LP199458-3 Methcathinone
Methcathinone is an illicit drug also known as ephedrone, which is a methyl derivative of cathinone, a stimulant found in the khat plant, Catha edulis. It is a substance of abuse and can be easily manufactured via the oxidation of pseudoephedrin. PMID: 15919169 Methcathinone abuse is a significant cause of parkinsonism among young patients in Eastern European countries. The final mixture contains a high concentration of manganese if potassium permanganate is used as the oxidant agent. The use of manganese-contaminated methcathinone may cause permanent neurological damage and severe disability. Drug users develop a distinctive extrapyramidal syndrome that resembles classic manganese intoxication. Methcathinone could have additive neurotoxic effect to the progression of parkinsonism. LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.
