Carbadox [Susceptibility] by Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)
Active
Part Description
LP263256-2 Carbadox
Veterinary Medicine: Carbadox is a potent synthetic antimicrobial agent and derivative of quinoxaline 1,4-di-N-oxide (QdNO). Carbadox and other derivatives of QdNOs are used for improving the feed efficiency and controlling dysentery in food-producing animals, primarily swine. PMID: 23521002 Studies have shown QdNOs derivatives can be toxic to animals, especially when administered at high dosages and for prolonged periods of time. The recommended use in animals is restricted to a bare minimum. PMID: 2396245 Many countries have banned the use of Carbadox in farm animals since it is known to be carcinogenic and is a risk to humans who consume meat containing carbadox residues. Recently, the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) determined that the human lifetime cancer risk from the consumption of pork liver containing carbadox residues is higher than allowed per FDA regulation and took steps to withdraw approval of the use of carbadox in swine.https://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/ProductSafetyInformation/ucm494695.htm
