This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI). For the CDAI, 28 joints are counted which includes shoulders, elbows, wrists, metacarpophalangeals (MCPs), proximal interphalangeals (PIPs) including thumb IP, and knees. Note that none of the lower extremity joints other than the knees are counted in the CDAI.
