Term Description
The airway suction device type, such as manual or mechanical, used to remove mucus, fluids, blood, or other substances from the patient's upper airway. Manual suctioning units are operated by hand whereas mechanical suctioning units are electrically powered and typically have more power. They produce a vacuum that can suction substances from the airway.
