Glomerular basement membrane Ab [Presence] in Serum by Line blot
Active
Term Description
This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the submitter's test strip, a membrane strip pre-coated with a specific set of antigens in parallel lines. If antibodies to any of those antigens are present in the patient's serum, they will bind to the specific antigen. The bound patient antibodies are then detected using labelled anti-human antibodies. Manufacturers call this method by different names, including immunoblot, line blot, and line immunoassay. LOINC uses the immunoblot (IB) method to mean that some electrophoretic/chromatographic separation occurs such that position (size) of the band is part of the assessment (as in Western blot). Because this assay does not involve a separation step but rather uses strips with pre-fixed antigens, the LOINC Method for this term is Line blot.

Part Descriptions
LP38249-6 Glomerular basement membrane Ab
Circulating glomerular basement membrane-specific antibodies are seen in Goodpasture syndrome; quantitation may be useful in monitoring treatment. This test is often used in conjunction with the antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) test for Wegener granulomatosis and vasculitis.

LP68423-0 Glomerular basement membrane
The layer of EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX that lies between the ENDOTHELIUM of the glomerular capillaries and the PODOCYTES of the inner or visceral layer of the BOWMAN CAPSULE. It is the product of these two cell types. It acts as a physical barrier and an ion-selective filter.

LP68423-0 Glomerular basement membrane
The glomerular basement membrane is the basal laminal portion of the glomerulus which performs the actual filtration through the filtration slits between the podocytes, separating the blood on the inside from the filtrate on the outside. It is a fusion of the endothelial cell and podocyte basal laminas.
