Part Description
LP267183-4 Porcine circovirus type 2d
Veterinary medicine:
Porcine circoviruses (PCV) are small nonenveloped, single stranded, negative sense, circular DNA viruses in the Circoviridae family. The three species of PCV are PCV1, PCV2, and PCV3. PCV2 is the primary virus that causes porcine circovirus disease (PCVD) and porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVAD) which is described as postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS). PCV2 is classified into four genotypes that include PCV2a, PCV2b, PCV2c, and PCV2d. PCV2d was initially isolated in pig herds in China, but has since been identified as the primary genotype of PCV2 infections in pigs in the United States, South Korea and other countries, possibly surpassing PCV2b that had previously been the dominant PCV2 genotype infecting pigs worldwide since 2003. PMID: 28386278 PCV2a and PCV2b are distributed around the world. PCV2c was originally known to exist only in healthy, domestic pigs in Denmark, but was later identified in feral pigs in Brazil. PCV1 is non-pathogenic to swine. PMID: 21945213 PCV3 is a circovirus species that is circulating in many countries including the United States, China, South Korea and Poland. PMID: 29132394
