LP33085-9 Fatty acids.omega 6
The omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids are necessary nutrients that cannot be produced in the body. They are essential to normal brain function and to growth and development. In addition, omega-6 fatty acids help stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and maintain the reproductive system. The source of omega-6 fatty acids is mainly from vegetable oils including linoleic acid (LA). LA is converted in the body to gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), and further broken down to arachidonic acid (AA). GLA is believed to reduce inflammation and can be found as a supplement in evening primrose oil, borage oil, and black currant seed oil. The GLA in these supplements is converted to dihomo-y-linolenic acid (DGLA) which has anti-inflammatory properties. Nutrients that help drive the conversion of GLA to DGLA include magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin B3, and vitamin B6.[https://www.umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/supplement/omega6-fatty-acids]

LP70337-8 Fatty acids.omega 3
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential nutrients that include eicosapentaenoate (EPA), docosahexaenoate (DHA), and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). They are made up of 18-22 carbon atoms with the first double bond at the third carbon from the methyl end of the fatty acid structure.[ http://www.dhaomega3.org/Overview/Structures-of-Omega-3-Fatty-Acids] EPA and DHA are found primarily in fatty fish including salmon, mackerel, tuna, herring, and sardines and in algae and krill. ALA is present in plant oils including flaxseed, soybean, and canola oils. [https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Omega3FattyAcids-Consumer/] There are many health benefits from maintaining a good level of omega-3 fatty acids including reduced inflammation, risk of heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and many more. Deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids can result in fatigue, poor memory, dry skin, heart problems, mood swings, and poor circulation.[https://www.umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/supplement/omega3-fatty-acids]
