Term Description

Immunodiffusion (ID) and complement fixation (CF) are used to detect antibodies to Histoplasma capsulatum in spinal fluid. The ID assay detects the presence of antibodies to the H. capsulatum M and H precipitin bands. The M band is present during acute infection, but can also be present during chronic infection and be detectable for months or years after the infection has resolved. The H band is present during chronic or severe acute infections. The M band is usually also present when the H band is detected. PMID: 17223625
