Part Description
LP73041-3 Output.ileostomy
An ileostomy is created surgically to move waste out of the body when the colon and/or rectum are not functioning properly. It is most commonly performed for ulcerative colitis but can also be necessary in cases of colon cancer, rectal cancer, birth defects or injuries to the colon or rectum. An ileostomy can be temporary but if the entire large intestine and rectum are removed, an ileostomy may be permanent. [MedlinePlus Encyclopedia:007378]
