LU18/LU19, also known as Au(a) and Au(b), belong to the Lutheran blood group system and are associated with the Lu glycoprotein. The Lutheran system currently (as of 2016) consists of 20 antigens numbered LU1 to LU22 with two (LU10 and LU15) declared obsolete. The LU18/LU19 polymorphism is an A1637 to G substitution in exon 12 of the BCAM (LU) gene encoding a Thr539 (LU18) to Ala (LU19) change. PMID: 9166867
