Detection of IgG antibodies against cytosolic 5'-nucleotidase 1A (cN-1A; synonyms: Mup44, NT5C1A) in serum or plasma for the diagnosis of inclusion body myositis (IBM). The term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's test kit, EUROIMMUN's Anti-cN-1A ELISA (IgG). A negative serological result does not exclude the presence of disease.

Cytosolic 5'-nucleotidase 1A (cN-1A; also known as Mup44, NT5C1A) antibodies are found in patients with inclusion body myositis (IBM), an autoimmune and degenerative disorder most common in persons 50 years or older. CN-1A is most abundant in skeletal muscle and is involved in a variety of functions, including DNA repair metabolism. Studies suggest that anti-cN1A autoimmunity may be a consequence of IBM myonuclear degeneration in patient. Anti-cN1A autoantibody testing may be useful in distinguishing IBM from polymyositis (PM) and other progressive muscular disorder that present with similar symptoms.
