An important allergen source and factor in allergic asthma is the house dust mite (HDM) Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. Der p 23 represents a new major D. pteronyssinus allergen. Reported Der p 23 specific IgE levels were comparable to other recognized HDM allergens including Der p 1 and Der p 2 IgE. In addition, basophil activation assays from HDM allergic patients indicated that high allergenic activity. Associations with mite feces and airborne and respirable ability, may contribute to the developing high allergenic activity and identification as respiratory allergen.
