Term Description

The Barthel Index was designed to assess independence in self care for patients receiving rehabilitation services. Typically, the Barthel Index is scored at the beginning of treatment and then periodically throughout treatment. Higher scores are associated with greater independence and therefore greater potential for successful rehabilitation. PMID: 14258950
