Each year on February 16, we celebrate LOINC Day. It was on this date in 1994 that Clem McDonald, Stan Huff, and other founding members of the LOINC Committee first met and began creating what would become an integral standard for health data around the world.
Celebrating LOINC Day highlights the importance of the standard in achieving interoperable, reliable, and globally‐usable health data. By standardizing how observations are coded and communicated, LOINC helps ensure data can be shared and understood across systems, institutions and borders.
We invite organizations and users of LOINC around the world to join us in marking the day with success stories, use‐cases, educational activities—or simply sharing pig-themed memes.
The inaugural observance of LOINC Day occurred in 2019, coinciding with 25-year anniversary of LOINC.
