Description
The Respiratory Severity Score (RSS) is calculated by multiplying the FiO2 times the MAP (mean airway pressure). The RSS is a modification of the oxygenation index (OI), calculated according to the following
formula: OI= Mean Airway Pressure (M) Fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2)/Partial pressure of
arterial oxyg (PaO2). PMID: 23359457 In contrast to the OI, the RSS does not require PaO2 values (via an indwelling arterial catheter) and thus is a simpler measure of lung disease severity.
