Description
Transcutaneous Co2 monitor measures partial pressure of CO2 at skin surface via an electrode very similar to blood gas electrode. Also usually is a heated to increase the blood flow near the skin surface. Measures the CO2 pressure of the subcutaneous tissue. Is used in neonatal care and in anesthesia to monitor CO2 tension. One device may include both O2 and CO2 pressure measurements. The measurement changes enough with respiration that the same instruments can also be used to measure respiratory rate.
