Bacterial vaginosis associated bacterium 2
Active
Description
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection, occurring when there is an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria in the vagina. BV infections are complex and polymicrobial, involving multiple species of bacteria, including Megasphaera species Type 1 (Mega1), Atopobium vaginae, and Bacterial Vaginosis Associated Bacterium 2 (BVAB2), which can grow in excess and cause vaginal irritation. BVAB2 is originally identified by 16S ribosomal sequences from vaginal flora of women with BV (as being in the order Clostridialis). Source: Regenstrief LOINC
