Descriptions
A species of gram-negative bacteria in the genus ACTINOBACILLUS. It is mainly a pathogen of PIGS, but also can infect HORSES. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006
Actinobacillus suis is a type of Pasteurellaceae and is a gram-negative, facultative anaerobe. A. suis is commonly harbored in swine tonsillar tissue, and if it enters the bloodstream can cause sepsis, meningitis, arthritis, and pneumonia. Although A. suis shares several virulence factors with A. pleuropneumoniae, they cause different diseases and A. suis has a broader host range. PMID: 26567540 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
