Obstructive apnea index
Active
Description
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the absence of airflow due to an occlusion in the upper airway that lasts at least 10 seconds in spite of continual effort to breathe.
The Obstructive apnea index (OAI) is calculated by dividing the number of events by the number of hours of sleep. (OAI values are typically categorized as 5-15/hr = Mild; 15-30/hr = Moderate; and > 30/h = Severe.)
