Dermatophytes chitin synthase 1 (chs1) gene
Active
Description
Dermatophytes include three types of fungi that commonly cause skin disease in animals and humans: Microsporum, Epidermophyton and Trichophyton. There are about 40 species in these three genera. Dermatophytes cause infections of the skin, hair and nails, including ringworm, tinea, and onychomycosis, due to their ability to obtain nutrients from keratinized material. Immuno-compromised patients are predisposed to chronic or recurrent dermatophyte infections. The chitin synthase 1 (csh1) gene is conserved among dermatophytes and used for general detection of the fungi in specimen by PCR.
