Polychromasia
Active
Description
Polychromasia occurs when there is an abnormally high number of red blood cells found in the bloodstream as a result of being prematurely released from the bone marrow. Polychromatophilic red cells are larger and younger than mature red cells and appear blue-gray on a blood smear. Polychromasia is usually a sign of bone marrow stress due to blood loss or other conditions. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
