Version 2.77

Description

There are more than 20 known antigens associated with the Lutheran blood group (24 antigens reported as of 2018 [https://thebiomedicalscientist.net/science/lutheran-blood-group-system]), all based on the expression of two codominant alleles, Lu^a and Lu^b PMID: 9642222. Lutheran antigens rarely cause serious transfusion reactions or hemolytic disease of the newborn (possibly because of weak expression on cord red blood cells). High frequency antigens include Lu2, Lu3, Lu4, Lu5, Lu6, Lu7, Lu8, Lu11, Lu12, Lu13, Lu16, Lu17, Lu20, and Lu21. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
