25 OH (hydroxy) Vit (Vitamin) D3, known as cholecalciferol and calciol, is derived from animal sources. Vitamin D3 inhibits lipid peroxidation in rat hepatocytes in vivo, iron-dependent lipid peroxidation in liposomes and modulates cellular antioxidant defense in lymphoma-bearing mice. The mechanism of the antioxidant effect of vitamin D is unknown. There is some evidence that vitamin D may affect brain serotonin levels. Source: Regenstrief Institute
