Dihydropteridine reductase
Active
Description
An enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of 6,7-dihydropteridine to 5,6,7,8-tetrahydropteridine in the presence of NADP+. Dihydropteridine reductase (DHPR) deficiency, also known as phenylketonuria type 2, is an autosomal recessive disorder. The resulting reduction in tetrahydrobiopterin results in malignant hyperphenylalaninemia, as well as a deficiency in certain neurotransmitters. Formerly listed as EC 1.6.99.7.
