Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP3) is a protein encoded by the IGFBP3 gene. Its levels decrease during the progression of prostate cancer from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to the metastatic form although its production does not cease completely. Instead of being synthesized at full length, however, IGFBP3 is cleaved thus preventing it from binding and sequestering IGFs.
